FP6

European research activities are structured around consecutive four-year programmes, or so-called Framework Programmes. The Sixth Framework Programme (FP6) of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities sets out the priorities for the period 2002-2006. The Programme is contributing to the creation of the European Research Area as well as to innovation. The FP6 covers community activities in the field of research, technological development and demonstration (RTD). It is a collection of the actions at EU level to fund and promote research.

FP6 does not cover all areas of science and technology. Based on strategic objectives, a limited numbers of thematic priorities have been selected. One of the thematic priorities is the "information society technologies" (IST), which is the thematic priority that Ambient Network is participating in.

More information about the FP6 is available on the websites from the European Commission and from Cordis. Cordis is the Community Research and Development Information Service, run by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Enterprise.
